What to do when album artwork is missing after NCM conversion
Missing artwork does not necessarily mean conversion failed. Separate missing source artwork, missing embedded output artwork, and a player displaying only its cached image.
Find where the artwork is stored
A Finder thumbnail or library image is not proof that artwork is embedded. Keep the original, inspect an output copy with a tag viewer that shows embedded pictures, and open the same file in another player before repeating a whole batch.
Choose the matching diagnosis
- Embedded artwork exists but one player does not show it: import a test copy again and check that player’s supported formats and cache.
- Readable source artwork exists but output artwork is absent: convert one track to a fresh folder and record input format, output format, and app version.
- The source has no readable picture: conversion cannot reconstruct it. Add an image you have permission to use to a copy with a tag editor that supports artwork.
Verify the edited file
- Reopen the file to confirm the picture is embedded rather than only stored in a library.
- Check that title, artist, and album tags remain correct.
- Test the same file on the destination device.
Conversion and tag editing are different tasks
